Starting from Firmware 1.0.25 we will have an FullHD avaible Netflix APK on the projector, BUT surely it will be better to have an official one from Netflix. With that, Philips doesnt have to recreate an new APK every time when Netflix has deactivated the Access from that Homebrewn APK.
In addition to that, an official whitelisted/certified APK would give us always the newest Netflix Version and will free-up resources at the Philips Dev Team.
I think the biggest problem is not using official Android TV interface and going with a simple AOPS interface. I would have liked more if it was using Android TV… Xgimi does it with its’ latest ( Mogo ) devices why can’t Philips?
My Anker Nebula Capsule II with Android TV also don’t have Netflix with HD or even FullHD Support.
Xgimi and or Xiami must have lobbying Netflix for years to get this… because for Android TV projectors you normaly have to sell hundred of thousands devices to get Netflix approved/certified/whitelisted.
By far the biggest problem with XGIMI’s MoGo and MoGo Pro is the two services they can’t properly access. Both Netflix and Disney+ are no shows here. Technically, both can be sideloaded and there’s a tutorial explaining how to do so for Netflix. However, these are big negatives in my eyes. Heck, in my testing, I couldn’t even get Netflix to work.
So Philips has actually done more than XGIMI by including in software update clients that others need to sideload…
I just wish people would check the facts before claiming someone does something as it creates confusion. People tend to believe to everything they read.
None of these other proejctors have official netflix either. I have the Capsule II, and tried the MoGo Pro. Capsule II has an unofficial APK that plays at 480P, and uses a mouse driven interface. Xgimi is even worse off. That said, YouTubeTV works incredibly well on my Capsule II. I hope that getting YouTube w/Log In in the latest PicoPix firmware means I can also get YTTV working native as well.
That’s awesome! I don’t have a PPM yet - I’m a backer in the 19K range, came in late to the game. With YTTV, Amazon, Netflix I’d be pretty set since I like to watch live sports on the big screen. To round it out, Disney+ and VUDU would be outstanding adds as well, assuming VUDU is probably in aptoid already? Disney+ might be lagging behind.
