@Philips_Support_P where can we download build 50661 to get netflix running again?
This is what I get when I open Set orientation. (I use the Projectivy launcher, so it looks a little different than the standard Luminos launcher, but the app is Set Orientation by eyesfree , version 1.1.4)
Hello P,
Is this new version supposed to work normally? With landscape mode? Or we still need the rotate image app to make the movie selection vertical?
My problem is, that i uninstalled the old version and installed 3rd party Netflix apps as suggested by some users on this forum, but unfortunately they were also outdated⌠And now i canât reinstall the original one, or non of the versions actually from the Philips store, because nothing happens when i click on it.
So I belive i need a factory reset beforehand, but then i will need to add all of my wifi passwords and do my logins again⌠so i would only do this if really necessary⌠otherwise i keep using my phone with hdmi for netflix⌠which is not ideal, but at least it works.
in my case when I clicked on the app in the app store I thought nothing was happening then realised that the progress bar is white on the white logo. Just gave it time to download and got the install screen. The app itself is not that good though
Can anyone explain pls how to download the app? What appstore they meant?
It doesnât work anymore for me too. I didnât do any update.
Plz what are we supposed to do ?
havenât tried updating netflix myself yet but hereâs a way to get the right .apk:
if you open s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/public-files.philipsprojection.com/ in the browser you get a list of all files stored there. if you search (ctrl+f) for 50661 you get a line app_updates/PPX620/com.netflix.mediaclient-50661.apk
if you now concatenate the urls you end up with
https://s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/public-files.philipsprojection.com/app_updates/PPX620/com.netflix.mediaclient-50661.apk
which downloads an .apk of appropriate size. please let me now if it works for you.
Downloading and running netflix the way I described worked fine for me (Download â put on USB-Drive â File-Manager on the ppx620 â USB â click the .apk â install
The default orientation in the netflix menu is in portrait though and navigation seems to only work with airmouse, not the arrow keys. oh wellâŚ
you got the wrong âset orientationâ app. i downloaded one via aptoide tv and it didnt work for me either (pull down notification and so on). downloaded the one KJV mentioned via google (for example here and installed it via usb-drive and voilĂĄ - it worked. netflix is now in landscape mode, navigation still sucks tho and the Widevine L3 only supports SD qualityâŚ
It works perfect ! Deleted my Netflix app already present on the projector and then installed this one. Thank you !!!
Thank you. It works !
Hello
I downloaded and install the version you shared
Netflix is opened but when i hit the play buton of any movie
I get an error it writes
Netflix no longer support this device.
(Please visit supported devices Netflix Supported Devices | Watch Netflix on your TV, phone, or computer | Netflix Help Center adress).
Any new solution anybody encounter?
@Philips_Support_P I tried to stay away from third party apps and hacks so I kept the old Netflix app for as long as possible. I did what you suggested now and uninstalled the stock application to download it again from the âApp Storeâ page, now I have Build 50731 (2024-09-08). I was sad to see I have the vertical display issue in the menu too, and the application is not working with directional arrows (as already pointed out for side installs). I didnât expect this kind of bugs from an official app from your app store. Is there really no better option than to fake the device orientation with a side-loaded application ? Is this the recommended way to use Netflix on the PicoPix Max now ?
Also, I guess you donât plan on provider further Android updates for this device (which is sad because the image quality was great), shall we just resell it (at a big loss) now before itâs just e-waste due to unmaintained & proprietary software ? Do we have other options (e.g. third party OS) to keep this device working for longer ?
Thanks.
Dear @adrienjarthon, we share your frustration. Unfortunately the Netflix issues are caused by Netflixâs own business policy. PicoPix Max was the first projector on the market to include the necessary security features (Widevine L1 certification from Google) needed by content publishers to support DRM-protected playback. Despite this, we have tirelessly tried to get official license for it for the past 6+ years, at any price, but Netflix continues to refuse it. As a result we have to do whatever else we can to offer it to our customers.
In order to protect our customerâs security and privacy, we do not use any hacked, unofficial or patched versions of any apps. The Netflix app that is made available on PicoPix Max is the same one that is available from Netflix on the Google Play store (signature matched). However as Netflix is unwilling to offer testing and support, and we cannot make modifications ourselves, the present situation is not ideal and cannot be improved further. Furthermore, the TV version of the Netflix app actively blocks all non-certified devices and does not play any content despite the Widevine L1 certification. This is the reason the mobile version had to be published.
Please do note that we continue to release software updates for all our smart products. Just a few days ago we have released LuminOS V2.11.1 which fixes several app-update related issues and paves the way for more features.
We are continuing to find a better workaround for Netflix and will keep our customers informed as early as possible.
Ok thanks for the details, and so this version which is the only one you can use is actually made for smartphones only, and prevents horizontal use in the menu isnât there something you can do at the OS level (similar to what the âSet orientationâ app does) to force netflix into landscape mode maybe ? (I guess something like telling the app that we are in portrait mode, except the portrait mode is 1920x1080 instead of 1080x1920). Or maybe if the app doesnât support landscape mode and force portrait mode, rotate the display on your end if you can detect it.
Alternatively could you provide this âset orientationâ app in the store or something equivalent to help workaround this situation ?
Itâs just so frustrating. Bout this projector, have a loved it for years, Netflix app bugs out, i given in to an updated alert, and loose my whole system through having to factory reset because the new version bugged it out. Now I cannot see t replace my most used apps (Netflix and BBC iPlayer) and so this projector is useless to me.
And there doesnât seem to be any options for getting it back up and running the way it was? Some fairly complex work arounds and none of them look like they will ever have me using this project with the ease and simplicity it has before. Philips, I am so disheartened.
Worse still, you are currently running another projector Kickstarter campaign, when there is a glaring issues with the function of this one and a community of people scrabbling around trying to find solutions.
