What was the reason given for not using Google Services?

I had disney+ regular version 1.5.1 version crashing after updating from 1.4.2. So I got the android tv version 1.5.0 from apkmirror, a bundle apk which needs apkmirror installer, works great now. Disney+, netflix and a couple others my source is always apkmirror.
To fetch updates, I use apkupdater, I find it more reliable than aptoid, since I can pick a version that’s generally more recent.

Thanks for that  I have tested it now and Disney+ Version 1.5.1 is working (D-Pad Navigation is buggy and Generating force Close, Bit the AirMouse is fine!)

So I found a really great way to bring Android TV (Soon to be called Google TV) to PPM. Tivo just released a small dongle (4K Android TV) for a very reasonable LOW price which has HDMI, Micro-USB and USB-C ports.

Google is planning to release their own updated Chromecast dongle this summer with the rumor it will be using Android TV as a platform but will start at $80 to $100…

This is an excellent dongle, TIVO service is not required to use it or does it need any subscription.

So for those that are not keen on the Raspberry Pi approach Philips deployed for this projector, I highly recommend this.

Yes but you also need to take into consideration the inherent HW limitation of PPM of not having manual / sw level 4 corner correction when using HDMI. So yes you can connect a lot on HDMI but if you cant get a properly aligned display then whats the point. Thus PPM fails in many aspects and not just on question of why we have GMS / Android TV or not.

So this is a North American only thing?

I done a search for smallest bluetooth transmitter and also seen this one, are you personally using this? if so I notice this thing is rechargeable with a stated run time of 4 to 5 hours, now if we plug a usb to micro usb cable from the ppm to this that should make it run continuously right?
But now due to the price of this thing I’m also tossing up whether to get this or an Amazon firestick instead.

will we ever get the playstore?

Never, unfortunately !

I used to have - functioning - Google Play store in my Philips PicoPix 4935 (aka PicoPix Pro). Good times. But then the projector died, after 3000 hours. (Not because of Google Play of course.)

How come?

I think someone far more skilled than I will get the play store up and running eventually, but there will never be an official release.

Looks like this person has already started work on this but please build up your own technical knowledge before hand as things could go wrong: Release v1.1 · pvliesdonk/device_philips_ppx620 · GitHub

Ooh this is cool

FYI that is my work. GMS works very much to my satisfaction.

But please, please, please heed all the warnings. You can mess up your device beyond repair and neither Philips nor me will be able (or willing) to help you.

Also consider that the device’s software is still very much under development, and that messing with it right now is probably a stupid thing to do.

Well done fella. Are you planning on continuing your work as the device becomes more mature?

I don’t really know why it did. Suddenly everything projected was red. Like there was a red lens in front of the ppm 4935. I think one of the light sources (I think there must be three to be able to make all the colours?) stopped working. I got 75% of the value refunded so there was no investigation, at least not communicated with me.

Agreed, these are the sort of things you do after the warranty has run out and you are bored with the product.

I have an old android TV box “Minix U1 neo” that has GMS and is not Android TV certified. It does not have a touch screen and has Google services. Did the policy change or did Google made an exception for them?

GMS but Android TV: impossible, this is an old Android 5.1.1 with a skin.
