Probably wont help, but if you make an app off som kind so that you can mirror the projectors screen on to your android phone and control it from the phones tuch screen you could argue that the projector has touch screen support and maybe get google certified? @Philips_Support_P
It wouldnât matter at all, if you could just run HDMI with bluetooth. Put in a Chromecast, and done.
As a backer of this project, I am disappointed in the result of this from a major company.
It has caused me to re-evaluate using indiegogo or Kickstarter for projects by large multinational companies.
My projector sits in a bag, I replaced it with an LG that has a proper OS and real apps.
All the lumens in the world just to get a spec sheet comparison 1-up is all that happened here.
I donât see why itâs not a proper OS according to you.
It starts up, connects to WiFi and Bluetooth and runs the apps I need and want on it.
Windows 10 is a great OS, but so was Windows 3.11 or MS-DOS 6.22. Of course you can always have bigger and more features but I think that what the PPX has is more than enough.
Let see - jacked version of Netflix, off-brand YouTube player which I will never log into, all other apps from Aptoide is a prayer while installing to see if it will work.
If you think that the OS in PPM is fine - thatâs your opinion. I allowed my wallet to do the talking and moved on to a better system for me.
The PPM will be used whenever I find time. Otherwise it is $500 wasted.
May I ask which model you bought instead? I couldnât find anything in he LG lineup close to what youâre describing.
Itâs this one: LG - PF50KA
Woah that LG seems better ⌠Plus itâs seems to be selling cheaper than the MSRP of the PPM.
And it is a crappy and jacked OS.
The Netflix is not great, navigating with the remote through it via not great, the prime is not great either.
I have the LG.
The remote is awesome
The Apps are awesome
Things just work. No fighting or looking for âworkaroundsâ.
Just saw the specs and are looking pretty good.
It does have only 600 lumens compaired to 850 Lumens of PPM, but other than that, the specs are amazing.
I remind you guys that LG is using their LG OS, also used on TV. Thatâs why they can have all the certifications.
Philips doesnât have such OS for the moment. Also 600 lumens are marketing. Please test our Max in // of the LG. You will see the difference.
Also, the LG is far bigger than our device, lower brightness, lower battery time⌠We compressed everything in a very small package. No 4 corners corrections, no Auto FocusâŚ
@AndrewMD I remind you your purchased the Max at 419 euros, far less expensive than the LG one
We recognize that we donât have GMS Google certification (because Google canât certify a projector) but:
- a lot of apps in the google playstore are made only for mobile phone and tablets, wont work on a projector. Thatâs why we choose APtoide which have apps for TV version
- it is true that we donât have Android TV. But we chose to get Android AOSP to get Netlfix. Other wise: no NEtflix with Android TV for the moment
- we choose Android AOSP because itâs more versatile
- we have Widevine L1 which is the most important
Also donât forget: the most beautiful girl in a world has only what she got. IN another word: a perfect product doesnât exist. We went one way. and we will make better product in the future, always improving the features!
I have compared both of them actually - Itâs why the LG is mounted and the PPM is grounded⌠You make a of comparisons but the one thing that is most important to many of the users on the forum is functionality. Something that has been repeated over and over on multiple forum posts on the community page.
As with other consumers, the âWe cannot get certified for GMSâ is a no go, same with not have ATV.
The one thing you said correctly that mattered is " Philips doesnât have such OS for the moment"âŚ
800 Lumen vs 600 - Doesnât actually make a huge different once it is dark
LG is larger⌠BUT LG feels lighter.
PPM has auto focus â cool â but LG has a nice manual focus that doesnât trigger whenever you touch the projector and I donât need to have a remote to focusâŚ
LG has a smaller battery⌠Mine is plugged in and I havenât had a single issue with battery/Plug jumping issues like I have on the PPM⌠Which seems to have issues with MacBook adapters, certain 65w PDs and also seems to have issues with USB-C type cablesâŚ
My LG cost me under $550.00 not to much more than what PPM cost.
At the end of the day it is all about user experience.
As with other consumers, the âWe cannot get certified for GMSâ is a no go, same with not have ATV. Sorry but this is the reality. Point me a projector that have Netflix Full HD (not talking about LGâŚ)
Also, we are sorry you are not happy with our product. If you are not satisfied, we can for sure refund you!
Why does that matter? The thing is the version supplied with PPM is a hacked version of Netflix⌠Also there are a number of new Android TV based projectors coming out or are out that have real app supportâŚ
- It would be nice to refund - but - letâs be realistic. - the main point of backing this project was it came from a major company⌠This campaign has effectively killed my desire to support larger companies on a backer siteâŚ
Yes but they donât have Netflix. We chose AOSP because of that and because of the versatility.
Also, you need to know that we asked all backers about the ANdroid Version they wanted. A lot of them struggled and finally 72% wanted AOSP⌠Thatâs why we chose this version
Why does this matter exactly? I can start the app, and watch Netflix content in 1080p Full HD on a 120â or more screen. Whether the underlying OS is Android, Propietary, or even MSDOS is to me irrelevant.
At the end of the day, itâs a portable projector that displays all the content sources I have. So I for one am quite happy with it. I still have yet to see itâs equal anywhere else.
Hey Iâd love to see a link to that poll.
IMO, it matters as I would like my projector to be as automated and up to date as possible. A good example of this was the recent v1.1.03 which required a manual APK update of the Amazon Prime Video app after installing the v1.1.03 update. While this manual APK was not a major deal for me personally as I like this kind of stuff, my wife or kids would never have been able to do it. So, it means that the PPM does require some kind of enthusiast/tech minded individual who is willing to invest in manual steps to keep it current and up to date.
I believe the sentiment of this thread is that if the PPM used a more widely supported app ecosystem, this level of automation would be baked in and PPM customers could always trust that every app was updated and functioning with the latest security, bug, and feature fixes. Additionally, other apps like AppleTV+ would be obtainable, which are not currently available on the PPM unless you connect an Apple TV via HDMI (and then lose some of the auto adjustment + bluetooth benefits)
Iâm glad it works well for you IvoG, but I question if the chosen app ecosystem works well for for the mainstream audience.
It is a good straightforward projector that does exactly what a projector should do. It even supports chrome cast internally and has flawless connection without issues with secure video from Hulu, YouTube, Disney+ and more. Something that I could not do on PPM. That by itself was enough to disregard all the other minor things such as it being a little bigger or not have auto focus.
The built in dTV tuner allows me to have a TV in my home office. It can also be charged via usbC and I have had ZERO issues with using a MacBook charger with it or connecting my MacBook to it.
Blockquote Hey! Curious on your deeper thoughts re: PF50KA vs PPM. Love the PPM, but per the comment I just posted, the amount of manual upkeep is annoying and it sounds like the PF50KA is much more âset it & forget itâ. Have you had any issues with it? I also love that it has cable TV in and HDMI ARC. From your comments, it sounds like you like it, but wanted to get you input before I pull the trigger and buy one.

Great to see/hear of good product competition in this space. I really love the hardware side of the PPM and am excited by the software roadmap; I just hope continued improvements will come soon.
