That was one of the reasons I pledged for the PPMax
Mate, XIAOMI does
Glad to know you feel that the PPM is the equivalent to an old 386.
I was going to be more kind, at least make it a Pentium⦠
But the fact remains that in the current state many cannot use the projector stand-alone as a sole media consumption device.
And the fact that the projector has issues with an Apple MacBook Adapter and is continuing to have issues with directly connecting certain Apple devices makes it a worthless for folks that purchased it for the convenience of carrying less cables and adapters with them.
Fact remains that this is your view of the situation, and that the term many is also wildly variable in its range.
I would dare say that 95% of all backersā use cases are covered by the PPX620.
And nice of you to turn my examples of other hardware eventually becoming obsolete and turning them into an alleged opinion I have of the PPX620. ![]()
You couldnāt be further from how I feel about this device, as itās my love for it why Iām even still hanging around on this forum trying to help others with issues getting or using theirs.
Not at all. They donāt have the certification yet.
Pouet.
No, they said in a thread that they will have it. But they still donāt
I donāt mean to be contrary here, but the difference is that you could continue using your 386SX with Windows 95. The problem @Pouet was referring to is that Netflix can at any time update their service to support only official apps, removing functionality from our PPX from their end. Microsoft could not (back then) stop you from continuing to use Windows 95
Having said that, if Netflix somehow actively blocks the modded Netflix app on the PPX, we will still have a capable 1080p projector, which we might have to use an external player to use Netflix with. For now, I am contend with that.
@IvoGrijt @Philips_Support_N donāt get me wrong, I like the device and I think everybody here just want the best for it
(and a long life support as Iāve seen for Nvidia Shield TV).
Thank you for giving to the community of users the ability to discuss and share points of views, feed back, bug reports, project status, itās a lot of work.
I know what it means to design and certify hardware, develop firmware, and manufacturing tools for such devices or similar.
I really appreciate, Philips team to try to fullfill users requirements and find a compromise to make everyone happy.
@philips team, you are not helped by Google, Netflix, etc⦠And this is very sad.
@IvoGrijt, I know PPMax canāt support APP update / new OSes forever
.
I just express a fact: by experience, lot of manufacturers stop to maintain devices although there are still perfectly able to get it (and then community of developpers tries/have to make custom roms, etcā¦).
Currently with no GMS / play store, users are already reporting problems. And itās even more prone to not get update. Some services may not work in a close futur because of sideloading older / patched apps.
I donāt blame anyone, iām just saying facts.
Hello,
In fact we need to maintain the projectors for 2 years and need to be able to repair it for 5 years. It means that f you have a HARDWARE issue, we need to be able to provide a free repair (2 years) and paid repair for extra 3 years. After sales depends on how you are using the projector for sureā¦
Concerning the OS we will do our best but its true that without any help from Netflix of Google, we canāt do muchā¦
in this review i can see the official Google interfaceā¦
soā¦
take a look and copy the chinese, usually it is the contrary
when we can have same interface ?
thanks!!
Did you also see the dongle inside it?
Inside the Xiaomi?
Imo I prefer the PPM, looks a bit cheap and last gen input wise.
Just seen in MI official shop, at 599eur localized Italian. Confirmed Android TV, same interface of Xiaomi TVs, hey Philips donāt you have also Android TVs??.
Have you looked at the projector and the many other new models coming out? No dongles. Which makes the PPM obsolete since the PPM needs a dongle for official Google apps.
They are not the same company. This is a licensed product made by a third party company.
you mean Mijia ? In any case it is sold in MI physical shops
As per Hardware I think our PPM is superior,
itās the software part that doesnāt live up with Philips reputation

Another question in the Community is if PPM could be sold in shops⦠well no, no with such software
MI did the job well and the projector is in shops actually
and even localized !!!
While I think some of the critique here is understandable, as their expectations seems to be different for some usecases, I do think there are some exaggerated general conclusion birthed from disappointment. I feel that Screeneo have been transparent, and seemingly offers refunds even now. Personally I am very satisfied with my PPM - my expectations were met and in some cases blown away. I am happy that the device is very versatile, so that at least I have the option to do get features (ātinkerā), which in the case of a typical retail super closed-off OS probably would have meant not getting the particular features at all. Also Screeneo shows a continued dedication on software patches, which is positive imo. On a sidenote, I am borderline amazed at how the community was brought into the process with the addition of this site. I donāt recall being part of a crowdfunding project that had this much community interaction, with technical feedback loops (even if it was a byproduct of the solution to the overload of repeated questions on the indiegogo page)
Anyway, why keep your pledge if you werenāt happy with some of the limited features already outlined in advance? Seems weird to wait for your package to arrive, knowing there was a dealbreaker for you? It kinda invalidates the point made. Although it is good feedback to work with for future iterations
Iām alright with PPM not using Google Services. As long as Aptoide provides softwares which allows access to most apps.
I will explain again lol: they donāt have Netflix yet on Android TV.
No, PPM is manufactured under license of Philips, it is not actually a Philips brand which is why it was not allowed to piggy-back off of Philips existing Android product linesā¦
